Home Move info 3 - 6 months

It’s coming down to crunch time; with 3-6 months to go you’ll be very busy with paperwork, practicalities and further planning. By now you should have already decided which household goods are going with you and which are not, so it’s the perfect moment to contact us for a quote!

With 3-6 months to go, we recommend that you:

  • Contact Gosselin Mobility to arrange your pre-move survey as soon as possible. A surveyor will visit you at home to assess the volume of your move and answer all of your questions. Shortly afterwards we provide you with a quotation for relocating your belongings, and also discuss your insurance options.
  • Make copies of all valuable and legal documents you plan to take with you, such as birth and marriage certificates, social security records, health records, bank drafts and insurance policies. Leave these in a safe deposit box, or with a responsible person such as your lawyer, executor of your estate or the person to whom you have given power of attorney.
  • If you have children, notify their current school of your relocation, and ask them for copies of school records, certificates and transcripts.
  • Gather your family’s medical records and arrange for any necessary vaccinations (this extends to any pets you might be taking).
  • Check whether your insurance plan covers you in the country to which you are moving. Make any necessary adjustments or new insurance arrangements.
  • Decide what to do with your bank accounts: whether you will cancel credit cards or take them with you, whether you will keep your current account or close it. If you are keeping your current accounts, notify the bank of your new address (if you have not already).
  • Hold a garage/yard sale for any unwanted belongings, give them to friends/family or donate them to charity.
  • Update your address book to make sure you have accurate details for your friends, family and associates.
  • Compile a list of people/organizations who should be notified of your change of address. Your list can include: post office, lawyers, doctors, banks, loan companies and insurance companies.
  • Compile a list of any magazine/newspaper subscriptions, bills, permanent order payments and so on that you may have. Cancel any of these that are no longer relevant.

Pre-move survey

Being the first step in your move, the on-site survey is the key to success. Our surveyor verifies your volume, requirements and conditions. It helps you to understand how the move will take place, resolve any concerns and prevents unpleasant surprises later on.

And remember, they are for free!
